Do you sometimes dream about, or perhaps dread what lies ahead for our children? Given the current turbulent political climate not to mention the unkindness we witness on a worldly scale almost daily through social media and the news, I can’t help but contemplate where all of this will lead not only us but generations to come and where it will leave our children in the future.

Fortunately, I see a lot of kindness not only in Caspian but in children around me in general. This gives me hope that they will be able to create a better world. It is, however, our job to continue to nurture this kindness, to keep their dreams alive and encourage them to go further.

BIG SHOES TO FILL – HAPPINESS COMES FIRST

Do I want Caspian to follow in my footsteps? Yes, and no. I want him to pursue a life that makes him happy, whatever that entails. If he chooses routes I have walked I will happily hold his hand and guide him, though I will never force my experiences on him. If he chooses something completely different I’ll be on the sideline cheering him on every step of the way.

For now, I just want him to be a child for as long as possible though. For him to be ignorant to the terrors that humanity thrust upon each other every day.

I want us to love, to laugh and to run at life this summer. At least I know we’ll be comfortable in our gorgeous matching navy blue Mahabis slippers. Twinning is winning, right?
