CELEBRATE GRANDPARENTS DAY THIS OCTOBER

Celebrate Grandparents Day 2016

Did you know that on the 2nd of October we are to celebrate Grandparents Day? In the same way we celebrate Mother’s and Father’s Day earlier in the year. I think it’s a sweet idea.

Unfortunately Daddy Long Legs’ parents are no longer with us. They sadly never got the chance to meet Caspian. I, on the other hand, had all four of my grandparents, so Caspian’s great-grandparents, up until December last year, where we sadly lost my maternal grandfather at the age of 97.

For Christmas and birthdays I would often buy him clothes. He loved to read and dealt in wine as he carried on as a  phone salesman – believe it or not – up until months before he passed away, so clothes always seemed to be the one thing I could buy that he wouldn’t get for himself. He couldn’t get to the shops so easily and they didn’t know how to use a computer let alone the internet.

I made sure to always choose something affordable yet classic and of good quality. If he was still with us I would probably chose something from  Chums for Grandparents Day this year.

Living in another country I think my parents would most appreciate to see Caspian for Grandparents Day this year. But if we can’t make it over I might see what gifts we can send instead. Caspian is getting to that stage where he loves to draw and colour so we will definitely do handmade cards to post. Hopefully they know they are loved and appreciated even though they are far away. But it will be nice to do something a little extra to celebrate.

I’ve created a Pinterest board with ideas for gifts. What do you think?

Have you heard of Grandparents Day? Will you celebrate it this year? What gift would you suggest?

NB! Please note this post is written in partnership with Chums. All words and opinions are my own.

  1. I haven’t heard of grandparents day but we should really celebrate as my parents are fantastic with Archie and they help us both out so much. Love the ideas, home made things are treasured so much more by Nans and Grandads! Thanks for linking up to #MarvMondays. Kaye xo

  2. This is a really good reminder for me to ring my grandma! She’s 90 but still managed to travel half the length of the UK in June to come to visit us. Grandparents day should definitely become more mainstream. #MarvMondays
