Working from home takes discipline and dedication. If you are fortunate enough to have a separate room or office it’s often the best way. You can close the door on everyday life and leave the household chores behind. Simply focus on the tasks at hand. Like with any other room, decorating is important. Perhaps even more so with a home office. Looking at how you can create an inspiring space means you will want to go there and get stuck in. Pick a beautiful light colour for the walls, bring in plants or fresh flowers and invest in good furniture.
If you want more inspiration as to the best office fit out in London then you can find it with the best of the business. Here are my tips for creating a great work space at home.
KEEP THE SPACE TIDY
To have a closed off space naturally means you can leave the mess behind. Though in the same way you are unlikely to leave your desk in complete chaos at an office with others, you should try and keep your work station reasonably tidy. The beauty of closing the door on work and keeping it separate from your home life naturally means you can leave projects out if you need to. Though opening the door to a cluttered room can drain you mentally before you even start your day.
Invest in drawers, shelves and boxes to keep the clutter at bay. Think about a filling system that makes things easy to find.
USE POP OF COLOUR TO BRIGHTEN THINGS UP
Find a beautiful wall clock, this will save you constantly looking at your phone and furthermore getting drawn into Whatsapp conversations or checking Facebook. A nice hanging calendar allows you to keep on top of your commitments and can be a piece of art in itself. Frame some of your favourite photos and surround yourself with the people you love.
INVEST IN A DESK AND CHAIR FOR YOUR HOME OFFICE
If you know you’ll be spending many hours hunched over work investing in a proper desk and ergonomic chair will mean your back will thank you in years to come. Where these used to look clunky and out of place in an otherwise beautiful setting there are many options that will look great and even make the room come together. A desk that can be raised allows you to stand and work which is great for blood flow and posture, though these can be pricey.
Furthermore you need good lighting so that you don’t strain your eyes when concentrated on work.
KEEP NECESSITIES TO HAND
Breaks are important, but sometimes making another cup of tea is simply a way of procrastinating and not getting on with the important things. Make a tray with cups, sugar, milk, tea bags and a kettle so that you don’t have to leave the room to get another drink. Also, have water and snacks to hand.
