3 WAYS TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR GARDEN THIS SEASON

Advertorial

Back in August, we had a big birthday party for Caspian. We always postpone it 6 months as generally being outdoors in February can be a cold experience. We were excited to host friends and family for the 3rd year running in our gorgeous green space. Despite the absolutely amazing summer we had with sunshine most days and temperatures over 25 degrees, you can’t always predict the weather. Caspian had picked a flamingo theme which lent itself perfectly to the summery setting. Yet low and behold that Sunday the weather turned grey, rainy and the temperature dropped below 20. Not ideal when you have over 30 people arriving for a garden party.

The evening before we suddenly realised how ideal a garden tent would have been. We looked online and searched nearby shops but everywhere was either sold out or simply couldn’t deliver in time. Lesson learnt, and we’ve since bought a party tent, so we are prepared. Garden tents from Garden & Camping are perfect for any occasion.

LET YOUR CHILDREN PLAY OUTDOORS BUT STAY WARM YOURSELF

It’s so important for children to get enough fresh air even during winter. Many shy away from going outside when the temperature drops, and rain is on the horizon. It’s simply not convenient. Yet all you have to do is make sure they are dressed for it and they’ll have such a great time playing in the garden. Plus, after hours of running around and jumping in muddy puddles, they’ll sleep so much better. If you don’t like the cold simply retreat to your garden tent with a hot cup of coffee and a good book and you can keep wind and rain at bay while still keeping an eye on your little ones.

HELP EACHOTHER IN THE GARDEN AND CREATE BEAUTIFUL SEASONAL DECORATIONS AFETRWARDS

There can be a lot to do in a garden at this time of year. From planting for spring, picking up leaves, trimming and cutting. It can be both time consuming and a little boring. If you decide to make it a family affair it will be done much faster and it means spending time together away from screens. You can do a competition as to who can pick up the most leaves. Time will pass quicker, and you’ll soon have a beautiful green space to enjoy.

Also, gather things like twigs, pinecones, dried leaves and colourful berries and use these to create gorgeous seasonal decorations like door wreaths. It a fun activity for indoors when the weather is so harsh being outside is impossible.

COOK CHRISTMAS DINNER ON THE BBQ

If you’ve never done your Christmas duck, goose or turkey on the BBQ you are missing out. Yes, it might be that it’s cold outside but that doesn’t mean you can’t fire up the grill. As long as you have somewhere to shelter it can be really fun to do a BBQ especially if it’s snowing. The meat will get that tasty chargrilled flavour and you can impress your guests.

  1. I adore these ideas. I love crafting with my children and also spending time outdoors, it’s so important.
